NEW YORK, July 8, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Appetizer Mobile, a leading mobile application development and consultancy, today announced a partnership to develop and launch a suite of branded applications featuring David “Big Papi” Ortiz and Mariano Rivera over the coming months. The iPhone apps will range from novelty to entertainment and integrate their philanthropic efforts as well as existing and new corporate partners for various promotional tie-ins.

Apple recently made a new software development kit available to those writing applications for the iPhone. iPhone SDK 3.1 has lots of new tools for developers to take advantage of. Some of the changes include better control over the iPhone’s video editing software which preserves the original recording. Third party applications have also been given access to the video editing software, and the modem software has been updated. iPhone SDK 3.1 also has the MMS feature turned on by default with the AT&T carrier profile update 4.2 included as part of the SDK. Apple has not indicated when iPhone OS 3.1 will be available to end users.

Apple has announced a new version of the iPhone, called the iPhone 3GS. Major improvements over the iPhone 3G include a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and VGA video capture at 30fps, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA. There’s a touch-to-focus feature that allows users to touch the area of the screen that they want the camera to focus. It also has a built-in compass, improved battery life, faster peformance, voice commands, and hardware encryption. It will go on sale June 19. The 32GB model will be $299 and the 16GB model will be $199. Apple is also dropping the price of the iPhone 3G to $99 starting immediately.
